The 2027 BMW 7 Series is the seventh generation of the flagship sedan and the first luxury model to carry technologies from the Neue Klasse platform. Unveiled simultaneously in New York at Grand Central Terminal and in Beijing at Auto China 2026, the BMW 7 Series launches with four variants โ the all-electric i7 50 xDrive and i7 60 xDrive, the combustion-powered 740 and 740 xDrive โ with a plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive following in Q1 2027 and a V8-powered M Performance model arriving later. Pricing starts at $99,800 for the 740, $102,800 for the 740 xDrive, $106,200 for the i7 50 xDrive, and $124,700 for the i7 60 xDrive. Global production begins in July 2026 at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.
What Neue Klasse Technology Brings to the BMW 7 Series
The BMW 7 Series represents the most extensive model update BMW has ever undertaken, and its significance extends beyond the car itself โ it marks the beginning of a technology rollout from which all future BMW models will benefit. The centralized high-performance computers deliver 20 times more processing power than the current generation.
A zonal wiring harness architecture reduces harness weight by roughly 30 percent while eliminating around 2,000 feet of wiring. BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X โ built on the Android Open Source Project โ anchors the interior with the BMW Panoramic Vision projecting content across the full width of the windshield, a 17.9-inch Central Display in free-cut design, and a new BMW Passenger Screen making its debut as standard equipment in every BMW 7 Series model.
Interior and Theater Screen in the BMW 7 Series
The 31.3-inch BMW Theater Screen with 8K resolution transforms the rear compartment into a private cinema lounge, and for 2027 it gains Zoom video call capability through a new built-in camera, an HDMI connection for external devices, and full touch operation across the entire screen surface.
Optional Dolby Atmos playback pairs with the Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System โ up to 36 speakers, 1,925 watts, with surround speakers integrated into the headrests of both front and outer rear seats. The optional Executive Lounge rear compartment includes an integrated leg rest with a torso recline angle of up to 43 degrees. BMW Individual Dual-Finish paintwork โ a world first where matte and metallic finishes are manually applied to the lower and upper body sections with no visible transition โ requires more than 75 hours in the paint shop per car, nearly six times the standard process.
Design Language of the BMW 7 Series
The BMW 7 Series is the specific interpretation of the Neue Klasse design language for the luxury segment โ a monolithic appearance built around the updated illuminated BMW kidney grille with a slimmer, more vertical proportion, optional BMW Individual crystal headlights with 12 crystal glass elements per light, and a new two-section headlight design where low-beam and high-beam units are positioned almost invisibly near the air curtains.
A dynamic light carpet embedded in the door sills projects more than 194,000 pixels onto the ground during welcome and goodbye animations in three selectable modes. Flush door handles, a character line extending from the front apron through the sills and into the rear, and a retractable rear spoiler with Gurney flap-like form give the BMW 7 Series a presence that separates it from anything else in the current lineup.
The All-Electric BMW 7 Series: i7 Range and Charging
The i7 60 xDrive produces 536 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque, reaching 60 mph in about 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 149 mph. The i7 50 xDrive delivers 449 horsepower and 487 pound-feet, hitting 60 in about 5.3 seconds. Both use sixth-generation BMW eDrive cylindrical cells with 20 percent higher volumetric energy density than the previous prismatic cells, pushing usable battery capacity to 112.5 kWh and enabling the i7 60 xDrive to exceed 350 miles of range. Maximum DC charging has increased from 195 to 250 kW, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in 28 minutes. Every i7 ships with a standard NACS charge port for Supercharger network access.
The Combustion and Hybrid BMW 7 Series Models
The 740 xDrive runs a latest-generation inline-six producing 394 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque with a new turbocharger, reaching 60 mph in under five seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. The 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid pairs the inline-six at 308 horsepower with a 194-horsepower electric motor for a combined 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet, hitting 60 in about 4.6 seconds. The luxury performance segment is evolving for 2027, and the BMW 7 Series is the most technologically ambitious entry in the class โ a flagship that treats the Neue Klasse platform not as a future promise but as current-model reality.
