BMW Motorrad introduces the BMW R20 Concept, a fusion of timeless design and state-of-the-art engineering, featuring BMW’s iconic Big Boxer engine and groundbreaking technology. At the core of the BMW R20 Concept lies the air-oil-cooled engine, boasting an impressive displacement of 2,000 cc. This powerhouse is accompanied by newly developed cylinder head covers, a contemporary belt cover, and an innovative oil cooler that seamlessly integrates with partially concealed oil pipes, enhancing both performance and aesthetics.

The design philosophy of the BMW R20 Concept revolves around clean, powerful lines. The sculptured tank, which tapers towards the rear, highlights the motorcycle’s raw power and minimalistic elegance. The chassis, a newly redeveloped black double-loop main frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes, forms the robust backbone of the bike. Combining a 17×6.25 inch black disc wheel at the rear, fitted with a 200/55 tire, and a 17″ spoke wheel with black spokes and a 120/70 tire at the front, the BMW R20 Concept balances tradition and contemporary ideals.

The BMW R20 Concept incorporates the proven BMW Paralever in a unique two-arm variant, with the swingarm constructed from chrome-molybdenum steel and the Paralever strut crafted from aluminum. This design ensures the drive torque is well-balanced. Premium details like the two milled aluminum rear axle carriers and a shortened exposed driveshaft, conceptually inspired by the R18, enhance its visual appeal. The fully adjustable Öhlins Blackline components at both the front and rear provide unparalleled suspension, while the radially mounted ISR brake calipers, featuring six pistons at the front and four at the rear, guarantee flawless stopping power.

The side view of the BMW R20 Concept highlights the air flowing through open intake funnels into the throttle bodies and cylinders before exiting through the megaphone-style exhaust tailpipes, creating the distinct Big Boxer sound. The aluminum tank, redesigned in the vibrant “hotter than pink” color from the 1970s, complements the polished and anodized aluminum cylinder head covers, belt cover, and air intake funnels, as well as the gunmetal-finished Paralever strut, footrest system, and ISR brake calipers.

The single seat is upholstered in quilted black Alcantara and fine-grain leather, integrating the taillight and enhancing the dynamic roadster appearance with a compact rear. The modern LED headlight is presented in a 3D-printed aluminum ring with an integrated daytime running light, floating in the center of this ring and adding a futuristic touch to the classic design.

The BMW R20 Concept combines retro aesthetics with modern technology, setting new standards in the world of motorcycles and demonstrating BMW Motorrad’s commitment to engineering prowess and passion for motorcycling.
