A 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder named “Lucybelle III” is staged for the auction block at the March 2024 Amelia Island Auction.
Broad Arrow Auctions announced that the historic 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder “Lucybelle III” will be available for bidding at its upcoming Amelia Island Auction on March 1-2, 2024, at the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton.
The Porsche Spyder is a true gem, with an estimated value of $3,500,000 to $4,500,000 and an impressive racing history. It was originally sold to American race car driver Ed Hugus, who drove it at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans. After that, the vehicle was raced in various USAC and SCCA events, as well as the Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 1962, where it finished fourth in its class.

Jakob Greisen, Senior Car Specialist at Broad Arrow Auctions, said, “The 1959 Porsche 718 RSK is a hugely significant example of a purebred Porsche Le Mans race car, and we are truly honored to be offering it at the official auction of The Amelia on behalf of its gentleman owner. Chassis 024 is an impressively restored example with outstanding provenance and certainly one of the most genuine and best-documented examples of the few 718 RSK examples remaining worldwide.”
The car has been heavily restored by Mark Allin and his team at Rare Drive, Inc, who returned it to its original specification and presented it in the period-correct “Lucybelle III” livery. The restoration was so meticulous that it even preserved major components of the car. The white exterior paint, finished on top of German Racing Silver, is identical to the one the car had when it first raced at “la Sarthe”. The restoration has been so impressive that the Porsche has won several awards, including a class award at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and a First in Class at the Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance.
