The Aprilia SR GT 400 arrives in North America this summer with a genuinely bold claim behind it: real motorcycle engineering, built into a scooter. Aprilia built the SR GT 400 in the same Veneto factory that produces its Noale super sports bikes — a verifiable credibility marker, not just marketing copy — and the chassis, suspension, and electronics underneath the bodywork back that claim up.
A 100% Aprilia Chassis: Motorcycle Engineering in Scooter Form
On the Aprilia SR GT 400, the double-cradle frame runs all-new high-strength steel tubing, designed with a genuinely motorbike-style approach rather than typical scooter-segment compromises. Aprilia went as far as reducing the steering head angle to decrease trail, prioritizing maneuverability and precision over the stability-first engineering most scooters default to — a real departure from category norms. Suspension follows the same logic: a 41mm upside-down double-plate fork with 120mm of travel up front, and a double gas shock with separate reservoir and adjustable preload delivering another 120mm out back.

Total weight comes in at 186 kg (410 lbs) in running order, producing what Aprilia calls a record-breaking power-to-weight ratio for the category — roughly 7 kg per kW — and translating into genuinely quick acceleration: 0 to 60 meters in 5 seconds. Braking matches the motorcycle-grade approach throughout: a 300mm front floating disc with a radial-mounted, 4-piston caliper and sintered pads, a 240mm rear disc with a 2-piston caliper, and dual-channel ABS with dual mapping.
Design draws deliberately from two worlds — Aprilia’s sportbikes and off-road riding. Up front, a three-element full LED light cluster (an Aprilia sportbike signature) sits below a suspended, vertically tapered windscreen with five-position adjustability. The flanks carry sharp superstructure slits and footrests that echo off-road bike protective plating, while a central tunnel houses the fuel tank and connects front to rear — genuine motorcycle architecture, unusual for the category. The tail stays slim, with the rear light cluster fully integrated into the plate holder in a nod to enduro-bike high mudguards.

Built for City, Travel, and Adventure
The Aprilia SR GT 400’s off-road ambitions are genuine, not just styling. An active riding position, broad double-section naked handlebars with hand guards, and 190mm of minimum ground clearance are paired with Mitas Enduro Trail-ADV 2 tires — 120/70 front on a 16-inch rim, 150/70 rear on a 14-inch rim — developed specifically for this model rather than fitted off the shelf. A 12-liter tank delivers over 300 km (186 miles) of range, real touring capability rather than city-scooter numbers stretched thin.
Electronics carry the same motorcycle-grade thinking. Aprilia Traction Control offers two intervention levels, fully disableable even while riding, and the Bosch dual-channel ABS can be disabled on the rear wheel independently — meaning ATC off paired with front-only ABS gives riders the ideal off-road configuration, a genuinely thoughtful setup rather than an afterthought. A 5-inch color TFT display auto-adjusts between day and night modes, and the Aprilia MIA platform adds smartphone connectivity, handlebar-controlled calls and music, and turn-by-turn pictogram navigation.

The Aprilia SR GT 400’s engine backs up the chassis ambition. The 400 hpe Euro 5+ is a 4-stroke, 4-valve, liquid-cooled single producing 36 hp at 7,500 rpm and 37.7 Nm of torque at 5,700 rpm, built with technology typically found on top-of-the-range motorcycles — a weight-optimized connecting rod, a lighter stamped-aluminum piston, and a patented PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system that reduces pumping losses and boosts power. Twin spark ignition and iridium spark plugs rated for roughly 20,000 km (12,427 miles) round out an engine built for genuine longevity, not just peak numbers.
Comfort details matter too: an 820mm (32.28″) seat height keeps the bike accessible despite the 190mm ground clearance, a keyless system starts the bike with the key still in a rider’s pocket, and the Bike Finder function flashes the turn signals to locate the bike in a crowded lot — genuinely useful, not just a gimmick. Underseat storage fits a full-face helmet, and the central tunnel adds a USB-C charging port.
The base Aprilia SR GT 400 arrives in Rugged Black or Dusty Grey at $7,299 USD ($8,245 CAD). The Rally Replica version, inspired by the livery of the Aprilia Tuareg Rally — winner of the last two editions of the Africa Eco Race, the grueling Dakar-route rally raid — adds a matte black finish, gold fork stems, red shock springs, and Aprilia MIA as standard, priced at $7,499 USD ($8,495 CAD). Both arrive in North America between July and August 2026.
