Jaguar D-Type OKV 2 Works Competition Up for Auction

The Jaguar D-Type OKV 2 Works Competition will headline the 2025 Amelia Auction by Broad Arrow Auctions. With a legacy dating back to its 1954 debut, this racing machine is set to command attention on March 7-8 at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, with estimates varying between $6.5 million and $8.5 million.

The car was crafted as a part of Jaguar’s bold assault on the 1954 24 Hours of Le Mans. As the lead car in the inaugural trio of D-Types, it was entrusted to drivers Stirling Moss and Peter Walker. The duo set a blistering top speed of 172.97 mph on the Mulsanne Straight. Though brake issues trimmed its Le Mans debut, the car went on to compete in numerous high-profile European races between 1954 and 1958, driven by motorsport legends such as Mike Hawthorne, Norman Dewis, and Tony Rolt.

The D-Type OKV 2 Works Competition embodied innovation with its aircraft-inspired lightweight design and sleek, aerodynamic contours. Built for speed and endurance, it set the stage for Jaguar’s legendary three consecutive Le Mans victories. Over the years, this car underwent enhancements, including a Works-type integral subframe and a 1955-style front bonnet, further cementing its place as a versatile competitor in motorsport.

After its active racing years, it transitioned into the hands of collectors and enthusiasts who preserved its legacy. Renowned Jaguar Test Driver Norman Dewis reunited with the vehicle decades later, driving it at Monterey Historic Races. With extensive documentation, archival imagery, and Le Mans testing records, the D-Type OKV 2 Works Competition remains a symbol of automotive artistry and performance.

The Jaguar D-Type OKV 2 Works Competition stands among the most raced Works D-Types, making it a centerpiece for collectors and racing enthusiasts. Its appearances at historic events like the Goodwood Revival and the Le Mans Classic underline its enduring appeal.
